Ellen Thomas Reibling, M.A., is Director of the UCI Health
Education Center. Ms. Reibling moved the substance abuse prevention
program to Health Education in 1990 after working in the Dean of
Students' Office since 1985.
Ms. Reibling was Assistant Dean of Students at Texas Tech University
prior to her move to Irvine. Ms. Reibling served as primary author
and co-primary investigator for five U.S. Department of Education
drug prevention grants. Projects include a dissemination model for
peer education programs and a national student organization project
targeting fraternities and sororities. Two major training manuals
were produced under these grants: ANGLE Network Implementation
Manual and Project Aware Resource Bin.
UCI Health Education is host of a current federally-funded project
titled Southern UC Peer Educator Consortia. The consortia hosts
periodic trainings and coordinates a website devoted to peer
education in alcohol and other drug prevention. Ms. Reibling is
Project Director and Co-Primary Investigator for this project.
As another a part of her Director responsibilities, Ms. Reibling is
a Senior Training Consultant to the national Higher Education Center
for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention. As a trainer for the Center,
Ms. Reibling plans and presents alcohol and drug prevention focused
trainings for regional teams of campus administrators. She has also
presented at several national meetings, including the New Grantee
Training Institute and American College Personnel Association, and
served as coordinator for the Second Annual New Grantee Training
Institute and the national HELP Network Conference, both hosted by
UCI in 1991.
Ms. Reibling earned an undergraduate degree in psychology from
Allegheny College and a master of arts from Bowling Green State
University. Ms. Reibling is a fifth-generation native Californian
and has lived in Irvine for twelve years.
