STOP Violence Against Women

Are you in immediate danger?

  • Call 911. (If you cannot speak, just dial 911 and leave the phone off the hook; police will be dispatched.  Remember, police can track the call ONLY if you are calling from a landline, not cellphones.)

*Cover your tracks... Your computer or your telephone may keep records that you've been here.

  1. Computer: When you visit this website (or any other website), the computer you use keeps records of it.  Click here for assistance on how to remove these records so your movements online cannot be tracked.
  2. Telephone: When you contact any organizations that assist women in danger, use a telephone that will NOT keep a record of the number you called.  If you call long distance, the number will appear on the bill.

    Tips

    • Many phone have a "REDIAL" button.  Call a friend or other "safe" number after you make any call you don't want your partner to know about.
    • The safest way to all or to receive calls from organizations trying to help is from a friend's phone, a public phone, a work phone, or any telephone that has nothing to do with your partner.
